Since the Earth is larger than the Moon, during a lunar eclipse the moon fits entirely in the Earth's shadow, and an eclipse can be seen from all over the Earth. However, during a solar eclipse, the Moon's shadow only falls on a portion of the Earth, so each solar eclipse can be seen only from some portion of the Earth.
